Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup dry white wine (optional)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Shape into 1-inch meatballs and set aside.
- In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and add sliced onions and butter. Sauté until caramelized (about 15-20 minutes).
- Sprinkle flour over onions and stir well; gradually add beef broth (and wine if using) while stirring. Bring to a simmer.
- Add meatballs to the skillet with onion sauce; sprinkle Worcestershire sauce on top. Bake for about 20 minutes.
