Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs flank steak
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella (bocconcini)
  • 2 ripe tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, mix balsamic vinegar, olive oil, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Place flank steak in a resealable bag or dish; pour marinade over it. Seal tightly and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight).
  2. Preheat the Grill: Preheat grill to medium-high heat (400°F/200°C). Clean and lightly oil grates.
  3. Grill the Steak: Remove steak from marinade; let excess drip off. Grill for 6-8 minutes per side until desired doneness is reached (medium rare is ideal).
  4. Rest and Slice: Transfer steak to a cutting board; let rest for 5 minutes before slicing against the grain into thin strips.
  5. Assemble the Caprese: On a platter, alternate layers of sliced mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil leaves. Drizzle with balsamic reduction if desired.
  6. Serve: Top the caprese salad with sliced grilled steak and drizzle with sauce before serving.
