Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup dried fruit (currants or raisins)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix warm milk and sugar; sprinkle yeast on top and let it froth for about 5 minutes.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Create a well in the center.
- Combine melted butter and eggs into the yeast mixture; pour it into the well of dry ingredients and mix until sticky dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough; incorporate dried fruit by folding it in. Divide into about 12 pieces and shape them into buns.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place buns on a lined baking sheet; cover again with a towel while they rise for another 30 minutes. Cut crosses on top and bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
