Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 cups mushrooms (cremini, shiitake, or button), sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup Gruyère cheese, grated
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions by cooking them with butter and olive oil over medium-low heat for about 30 minutes until golden brown. Add sugar, salt, and pepper halfway through.
- In the same skillet, sauté sliced mushrooms over medium heat until golden brown and dry (about 10 minutes). Set aside.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface into a rectangle and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Score a border around the edges.
- Spread caramelized onions within the scored area of the pastry, layer with sautéed mushrooms, and top with Gruyère and Parmesan cheese. Brush edges with beaten egg.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
